JULIE SEXSMITH
Explorer, Hockey Player, Giver, Coach
Julie spent 20 years focused on a career honing her leadership and analytical skills as an IT professional. By the time she reached Senior Management level, her work week was getting longer, the stress was increasing, and the demands of her career and busy family life were starting to take a toll on her health, relationships and overall happiness. The accolades and financial reward became unimportant as she learned what living life out of alignment of her core values did to her spirit. It was then she started exploring another way.
The clarity that emerged in the following months forever changed her view of life and inextricably altered her path. “Every day I learn more about how I want my life to go down. The more I learn, the more voracious my appetite for knowledge and connection. I have returned to a place of inspiration and wonder.”
Julie left the safety of her job and let her curiosity be her guide.
“Life stories are so fascinating to me – I have always had a passion for people so I got certified and started my own coaching practice to give back. I love pairing my logical thinking skills with my creativity to help people gain new insight into who they really are and articulate “that thing” that’s missing for them. I have already had the most amazing opportunities to learn, share and grow through this realignment with my core purpose.”
Outside of her passion for coaching, she can be found at the local rinks playing hockey, in the mountains face planting on the ski slopes, covered in mud mountain biking, volunteering at her children’s school or learning the ropes as a facilitator for In the Lead, a program under the Calgary Youth Justice Society, which applies strength based leadership to build resilience in young leaders at Calgary’s Outreach Schools. Julie is a founding member of “gro” and we love her explorer spirit, her commitment to gro’wth, her generous nature and her partnership with curiosity.
