The Alex Community Food Centre, is a special place that brings together community and serves those in need by providing good food, programming and a strong support network.  And it was the perfect venue for our gro VESSEL event on Healthy Eating with Michelle Giangualano, nutrition expert and owner of Bundles of Energy.

“When it comes to food it’s about a journey of discovery of what’s best for you,” says Michelle.

Food is one of our greatest pleasures in life. We love food, we love eating and we love sharing food with others. But how can we best support our physical and mental health with food?

Michelle shared tips and recipes on whole food eating that are quick, easy and taste great. She encouraged us to pay attention to what feels good – or doesn’t – to our bodies when we eat. “The key is awareness of what’s in the food you’re eating.”

Michelle demonstrated her delicious and nutrient dense pesto recipe and the group was hands-on with Michelle’s Tropical Chia Pudding and Sun Energy Balls recipes. As with many of her whole food recipes, ingredient substitutions can be easily made to account for food allergies and intolerances.

A big thanks to Tasha Egan and The Alex CFC for hosting our event. Thank you to those gro members who donated yoga mats for yoga programming at the CFC.
